Pace Island is the only guard-gated community on Fleming Island, and was one of the first upscale communities to be built on the Island. Developers bought the land in 1984 from John and Gussie Pace, hence the name, Pace Island. Pace Island is one of the top communities on Fleming Island. Here is a brief History of Pace Island.
Pace Island is a single family home community. Home prices range from the mid $100,000s to estate homes on navigable water on Doctors Lake that are selling for under $1,000,000 as of Summer 2011.
Recreation in Pace Island includes two swimming pool areas, playground, tennis, a soccer field, baseball field, gazebo, nature walk, and day dock on Doctors Lake for resident boats or visiting boats to the neighborhood. The Pace Island Piranha Swim Team is very competitive and active in Jacksonville swimming competitions. The tennis team is very active, and the community also has planned activities on holidays and other times during the year. There is a community newsletter which is published throughout the year and distributed in a news stand just outside the exit gate to Pace Island.
Schools are the A-rated Fleming Island area schools, and include Paterson Elementary, Green Cove Springs Junior High, and Fleming Island High School.
